When a Dear Friend May Become a Lover...

Rarely, does life it seems, avail to one
that rarest of opportunities when a dear friend
may become one's most important or eternal lover.

Though perhaps never intended, fondness
may grow into something more profound,
like deep love, just waiting to be uncovered.

And when the throes of pure love awakens,
it is for each and everyone of us to recognize it,
to seize it, embrace it, warmly and trustingly.

For failing such, we may thus never know the depth,
the wealth, the joys and the fulfilment that true love
may bring us, had we embraced it wholeheartedly...

Then...

When...

Two friends grew to appreciate one another
so much more than they did in times past,
when friendship was their foremost escape from bad love...

When...

Two friends grew to trust one another
so much more than they had trusted others in times past,
wizened from such love that demanded pushes and shoves.

Then...

When...

Both individuals struggled to redefine themselves
and all that life meant to them, all that love meant to them,
something more free, respectful, equal than one had ever known.

Yet then...

One may have misunderstood that friend, that other,
and frightened the other away, pushed the other away,
to let all those wonderful feelings lay waste, unspoken and unknown.

Then...

When...

A dear friend of mine became the embodiment of my greatest unrequited love.
