What Is Love?

What is love if not all that we should seek?
despite the many tosses and the many turns
that mark our passage through time and space...,
What is love if not the hunger that dwells inside
each and everyone of us, rising, growing,
that makes us question our priorities, our tastes?

What is love if not the jolt of passion
that sometimes springs from the depths of us,
burning, yearning, wanting, dreaming...,
What is love if not such a wonder that
touches us, fuels us, inspires us, moves us
so much so that we feel that we are careening?

What is love if not the fire in our belly
that rages uncontrollably, powerfully, dismissing
all those trivialities of our mundane existence...,
What is love if not the cry in our hearts
which beckons from us, trust, love, vision,
hopes and dreams to bring us deliverance?

What is love if not your most tender self,
the little, inner child that weeps for comfort,
that seeks shelter from the foreboding storm...,
What is love if not your soul pleading with you
to place yourself first, proudly, bravely, always,
and allow the trials of misery be gone, forlorn?

What is love if not your nature, your soul
that light which dwells deep within you, powerfully,
able to melt all prejudice and vice, overnight...,
What is love if not your being-ness, your presence
upon the very face of this earth, blessed, rightly,
transforming all semblances of failure and blight?

What is love if not your namesake, your cry
in the dark, your pleading, your soul's quest,
your aspiration lurching, crawling, begging...,
What is love if not your being, your heart
ever wanting to expand, to embrace the
great measures of grace we are reneging.
