Sitting By The Boardwalk...
Sitting by the boardwalk,
watching seagulls dive into the deep blue sea,
my thoughts escaped me, and carried me,
to a time when you and I once held each other close.
Then,
when,
I thought the world was one to be conquered,
and your heart was, my New World.
Then,
when,
the world was one to be discovered,
and you were then my love, my sweetest girl.
Sitting by the boardwalk,
watching the fishermen dreaming, yearning,
to catch a mermaid or maybe two or three,
and finally retire in love untold and unspeakable.
Then,
when,
the world was one to be embraced,
and as such every mans' dreams fulfilled.
Then,
when,
the world was one to be grateful for,
and the most painful of hurting hearts, finally stilled.
Sitting by the boardwalk,
I saw your face, smiling back at me,
from the depths of the deep blue see,
with your eyes reassuring me that our love was eternal.
Then,
when,
the world meant nothing without you,
and without your gentle, smiling eyes.
Then,
when,
a world without you, could only mean
a world of lofty dreams and foolish lies.
Sitting by the boardwalk,
I knew, God, Lord I knew,
you.
Sitting by the boardwalk,
I knew, God, Lord I knew,
that I loved you.
